Europa Editions will join the group of independent publishers The Independent Alliance in July this year as the firm aims to establish a "competitive presence in the UK".
Europa Editions is an independent publisher of literary fiction and non-fiction. Europa’s recent successes include the novels by Saleem Haddad, Andrea Camilleri, Domenico Starnone, Negar Djavadi, Christelle Dabos and Elena Ferrante.
The indie publisher also confirmed it is leaving its partnership with its UK and Ireland distributor Turnaround Publisher Services.
Europa Editions publishing director Eva Ferri said: “There are so many reasons why we are thrilled to be joining the Independent Alliance. And though we are sad to be leaving Bill Godber and his outstanding team at Turnaround, our dedicated partner since we started Europa Editions UK eight years ago, we believe that this new partnership will be crucial in our long-held aim to establish Europa Editions as an original and competitive presence in the UK.
“The Independent Alliance is a truly inspiring project that has at its core a distinctive vision of publishing, and a passion that we share. We have been warmly welcomed into this group of excellent publishers and are eager to start working with them in July. We firmly believe that with the support of the Alliance our books will travel far.”
Established in the US in 2005, Europa was set up in the UK in 2011 by husband and wife team Sandro Ferri and Sandra Ozzola, the publishers of the 40-year-old independent Italian press Edizioni E/O, its aim has been to broaden the literary landscape by promoting unique, bold voices from all over the world. Looning to strenghen its presence in the UK, former 4th Estate publisher and m.d. Chrisopher Potter was hired to lead the London HQ of Europa Editions in October last year.
Faber c.e.o. Stephen Page welcomed the new member to the Alliance. The Alliance is a global group of currently 15 publishers and their international partners who share a common vision of editorial excellence and original, diverse publishing alongside innovation in marketing and commercial success. Faber & Faber provide the sales service and administrative backup to the Alliance.
Page said: "We're delighted to be welcoming Europa into the Alliance. They are such a distinct and intelligent publishing house, with great experience and ambition for excellent books. Their recent moves to strengthen their presence in the UK, including the recruitment of Christopher Potter into their editorial team, are exciting and make it a perfect time for them to join the Alliance. On a personal note, I'm very much looking forward to working with Christopher again for the first time since we were together at 4th Estate nearly 20 years ago."
