Catherine Evans and Jurcell Virginia have launched a new publishing company, Inkspot, and will be hosting a launch event in Piccadilly, London on Tuesday 26th September, to celebrate the publication of its first two titles.
Founder and publishing director Evans acquired world rights for all the titles Inkspot has acquired so far.
Evans is a trustee and long-time supporter of ChipLitFest and the founder of Fiction Junkies. Virginia started his career in hedge funds, then moved to private equity. He is an avid martial arts fanatic and has written a book with his sensei, Hideo Muramatsu, The Neglected Samurai, which will be published by Inkspot in 2024.
Inkspot “believes in offering authors complete creative freedom and will publish work from any author, as long as they love the manuscript". Its list will include fiction and non-fiction, and plans on publishing around four titles a year.
The two novels launching the list are Fireweed by Richard Vaughan Davies and All Grown Up by Evans herself. Fireweed is set in Hamburg 1947. British military lawyer Adam is posted to the shattered city to assist in the prosecution of war criminals. He falls in love with a German girl during a time of strict anti-fraternisation rules, and he soon finds himself on a desperate chase to catch an escaped Nazi prisoner.
All Grown Up by Evans is the story of 15-year-old Neveah and her relationship with the married Giles, who thinks she is 22. A third book, Paradise Undone by Annie Dawid, will be published in November to coincide with the 45th anniversary of the Jonestown Massacre. It draws on extensive research and interviews to create a cohesive and credible story of the tragedy. In 2024, Inkspot will publish The Neglected Samurai by Virginia and Hideo Muramatsu in March.
