Everyman’s Library has launched a podcast hosted by broadcaster James Naughtie which will see him discuss classic works of literature with a guest each episode.
The first in the series explores The Great Gatsby by F Scott FItzgerald. Naughtie will talk to Professor Sarah Churchwell to discuss the book and how it has become the great prophetic novel of America.
It will be followed by Robin Lane Fox on Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations, John Banville on Elizabeth Bowen’s Collected Stories and Craig Raine on Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina.
David Campbell, publisher at Everyman’s Library, said: “This initiative came out of one of my last dinners in London with Sonny and Gita Mehta, whose idea it was. Without Sonny’s immediate and brilliant support for my idea of a revived Everyman’s Library in 1990 we would not be where we are today, with more than 20 million of the greatest books in print.”
Since its revival in 1991, Everyman’s Library has published more than 675 classic titles across five series.
The Everyman's Podcast is available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, CastBox and Google Podcasts.
