Pan Macmillan has bought two novels by debut author and Faber Academy graduate Trisha Sakhlecha, the first of which is a dark domestic psychological thriller about a disintegrating marriage.
World rights were acquired from Annette Green at the Annette Green Authors’ Agency.
The first novel from Sakhlecha, a Faber Academy alumni who works in the fashion industry, is titled Unravel. Moving between India and the UK, it explores the disintegration of a marriage from both the husband and wife’s point of view after she discovers he is having an affair.
Green called it "a compulsively readable debut which is at once exotic, dark and unputdownable", hailing the author a "stunning new voice of psychological suspense".
Pan Macmillan editor Vicky Mellor commented: “There has long been a fascination with marriage in psychological thrillers and I was immediately drawn to the dual British-Indian setting and lead characters. This point of difference in Trisha’s fantastically atmospheric and enticing debut, combined with its pace, twists and turns, make me very excited for publication."
Sakhlecha added: "The past few weeks have been an absolute whirlwind, with the reaction to my novel going beyond anything I could have imagined when I first started writing it. It's been extraordinary to see Vicki’s enthusiasm and understanding of what I set out to achieve and I'm so excited to be working with her and the team at Pan Macmillan to publish Unravel”.
Pan Macmillan will publish in paperback with simultaneous e-book and audio in spring 2019, and publish on a yearly basis thereafter.
Translation rights are controlled by Pan Macmillan with the final manuscript going out in early 2018.
