Faber Children’s will this September publish a picture book by writer Hannah Lee and illustrator Allen Fatimarahan, both of whom came through the Faber and Andlyn BAME (FAB) prize.
The FAB Prize was launched in 2016 by Faber and the Andlyn Literary Agency to find BAME children’s authors and illustrators and Lee was highly commended in 2017, while Allen Fatimaharan took second place for illustration in 2018.
Their picture book My Hair is about a young a young girl who is unsure about how to style her hair for a party.
Lee said: "It’s been amazing going on the journey of making my first book with people so dedicated to producing great work. Watching the words I have written go from black and white sketches, to characters and scenes coming to life in a wonderful translation of my vision by the brilliant Allen has been fantastic and I'm so excited to share my celebration and love of black hair with the world.”
Editor Stella Paskins acquired world rights for the text and illustration from Angharad Kowal Stannus at the Kowal Stannus Agency.
My Hair will be released in September.
