Faber & Faber has signed What Would Boudicca Do? by E Foley & B Coates.
Laura Hassan, editorial director, acquired world all languages rights directly from the authors.
What Would Boudicca Do? Life Lessons from History's Most Remarkable Women is an "inspiring and irreverent" guide which answers common problems facing women and girls today using the stories of the most celebrated women in history, according to the publisher.
Both Coates and Foley work at Penguin Random House: Coates is editorial director and deputy to the publisher, Vintage Paperbacks, and Foley is publishing director of Harvill Secker.
They said: "In a world where being a misogynist suddenly seems to be cool again, we found ourselves looking anxiously to the past for inspiration and advice. We wanted a pocket guide to how our heroic sisters, living in much tougher times through history, took control of their own destinies and made life work for them. So we decided to write it."
Foley and Coates are the authors of Homework for Grown-ups, Advanced Homework for Grown-ups, Homework for Grown-ups Quiz Book and Shakespeare for Grown-ups (all PRH).
Hassan said: "This is a little book full of big ideas & courageous acts. It has a wonderfully warm, jaunty tone and is filled with astonishing and amusing facts. It's a book you need to buy two copies of - one for yourself and one for your best girlfriend/daughter/mum/sister."
Faber will publish What Would Boudicca Do? in Autumn 2018
