Faber has snapped up I Will Crash, a new novel by Rebecca Watson, who was shortlisted for the Goldsmiths Prize.
Emmie Francis, who has since left Faber, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Cathryn Summerhayes at Curtis Brown, and crime commissioning editor Libby Marshall is publishing the book in hardback, in July 2024.
"It’s been six years since Rosa last saw her brother," the synopsis says. "Now the distance she had so carefully put between them has collapsed. Can she find a way to make peace – to forgive, to be forgiven – when the past she’s worked so hard to contain threatens to spill over into the present?"
Watson – the author of little scratch (Faber), which was shortlisted for the Goldsmiths Prize and the Desmond Elliott Prize, commented: "Writing I Will Crash over the past five years has been a real creative discovery for me and I’m so excited – buzzing, really – to finally be handing this novel over to readers."
Marshall added: "Rebecca’s debut established her as a fierce and original talent; I Will Crash is a formidable follow-up, written with her signature emotional intensity and formal daring and – if such a thing is possible – an even bigger heart. We are incredibly proud to be publishing this unforgettable novel."
