Welsh independent Firefly Press has launched the Let Your Imagination Fly campaign to link the publisher’s authors with bookshops, schools, libraries and community venues to bring books to new readers.
In a series of country-wide events, supported by Creative Wales’ New Audience Fund, administered by the Books Council of Wales, the campaign aims to encourage children and young adults to read for pleasure.
“We know research says that reading for pleasure is ‘the single biggest indicator of a child’s life chances’,” said publisher Penny Thomas. “But many children may not yet have had the chance to discover the fun of reading a book that makes you laugh, cry, see your world differently, or transport you somewhere else altogether! With this campaign we are hoping to get books into the hands of brand-new readers in Wales who may not think reading is for them, and to work with as many partners as possible to do so.”
Schools, libraries, bookshops and community hubs interested in setting up an author visit are asked to contact Megan Rees (megan.rees@fireflypress.co.uk) and Grace Samuel (grace.samuel@fireflypress.co.uk).
