The next Quick Reads titles will be announced this autumn and published in February 2020, accompanied by a “high profile media campaign”, a year on since author Jojo Moyes saved it from closure.
The scheme aims to bring the pleasures and benefits of reading to everyone by commissioning high profile authors to write shorter, engaging books that are specifically designed to be easy to read. The 2020 titles will be announced in the autumn and published in February 2020.
From 2020 to 2022, the initiative is supported by a philanthropic gift from Moyes, worth £120,000-a-year. The bestselling author’s intervention followed The Bookseller’s revelation that www.thebookseller.com/news/quick-reads-scrapped-2019-after-sponsor-search-fails-771181">Quick Reads was due to close after 12 years due to a lack of sponsorship.
The media campaign delivered by newly-signed agency Midas PR will “demonstrate how the scheme changes live, and the role it plays in addressing the national crisis around adult literacy in the UK”.
Quick Reads c.e.o. Sue Wilkinson said: “Quick Reads is a life changing scheme and we are delighted to be publishing new books in 2020 thanks to Jojo Moyes’ incredibly generous gift. We are looking forward to working with Midas to promote these brilliant books and help turn the UK into a society of readers.”
Wilkinson announced earlier this year that she would retire in July but it is understood that her replacement is still being recruited.
