Fitzcarraldo Editions is publishing its first-ever "hardbacks in a limited edition series" called the First Decade Collection, which features 10 books from the publisher’s first decade.
Designed by art director Ray O’Meara, each book is casebound in fine linen cloth and features custom-marbled endpapers and signed and numbered book plates, with a run of 1,000 copies each. The recommended retail price for the books is £30 to £50.
The five fiction books on the list comprise Pond by Claire-Louise Bennett, The Netanyahus by Joshua Cohen, Septology by Jon Fosse (translated by Damion Searls), Hurricane Season by Fernanda Melchor (translated by Sophie Hughes), and Flights by Olga Tokarczuk (translated by Jennifer Croft).
The hardback series will also include essay collections like Alaa Abd el-Fattah’s You Have Not Yet Been Defeated (translated by a collective), Second-hand Time by Svetlana Alexievich (translated by Bela Shayevich) and This Little Art by Kate Briggs, as well as The Essayism Trilogy by Brian Dillon and The Years by Annie Ernaux (translated by Alison L Strayer).
The First Decade Collection aims to reflect the breadth of Fitzcarraldo Editions’ contemporary publishing, which focuses on ambitious, imaginative and innovative writing in translation and in English.
The series will be published on 24th October 2024.
