“Fleabag” star Sian Clifford is narrating the audiobook of Olive, the debut novel by author and broadcaster Emma Gannon.
The actor, who played Fleabag's sister Claire in the show, will give voice to Olive, a woman at a crossroads in life, facing difficult decisions about friendships and motherhood.
Clifford was cast by Fionnuala Barrett, editorial director for audio, and the audiobook will be released alongside the hardback and e-book on 23rd July.
The book's synopsis explains: “Told with great warmth and nostalgia, Olive is a modern tale about the obstacle course of adulthood, milestone decisions and the ‘taboo’ about choosing not to have children.”
Gannon said: “I've been a huge fan of Sian ever since 'Fleabag' first graced our screens in 2016, and her on-stage performance of Gloria blew my mind. I am also lucky to call her a friend and over the moon that such a talented in-demand actor is reading words I have written, and someone who understands how much this story means to me. I am so excited for everyone to listen to this incredibly special audiobook.”
Clifford added: “I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to bring Olive to life. Emma is a dear friend of mine and someone whose work I followed even before we were friends, so it brings me great joy to get to collaborate on something for the first time, particularly because I remember when Olive was just a seed of an idea that Emma was readying herself to take a leap of faith on. I am so happy she did. Olive raises some very important questions that will hopefully help open up much needed conversations around motherhood and friendship. I can’t wait for listeners to hear her story.”
