Bookseller and book influencer Tilly Fitzgerald, known on social media as @TillyLovesBooks, has joined Shoreham-by-Sea’s independent bookshop, Chapter 34.
The news of her new job has come two weeks after the bookseller claimed she was "sacked" from Waterstones following an online post she made about VOX author Christina Dalcher (HQ).
Fitzgerald said on X that she had gotten a new job at an independent bookshop, asking her followers to not repost her announcement "as no doubt some people won’t be happy". She later revealed to The Bookseller that the bookshop she had referred to in the post was Chapter 34, where she will also be running a monthly book club and helping with author events.
"It’s a beautifully curated, cosy, independent bookshop in Shoreham, and when I received owner Kelly’s message offering me a job a few days after everything went a bit crazy, I immediately teared up at the kindness," she said. "I’m so looking forward to getting back to what I love doing and working with a lovely team who share my values. The only thing I’m worried about is learning to make coffee!"
A spokesperson from Waterstones told The Bookseller at the time that the book retailer is "an inclusive employer and follows due process in HR matters".
The spokesperson added: "For obvious reasons we are unable to comment on the specifics of individual cases."
HarperCollins, Dalcher’s publisher in the UK, declined to comment when approached by The Bookseller.
When approached, Dalcher told The Bookseller: "Thank you for reaching out, but I am unable to comment on the situation between Tilly Fitzgerald and Waterstones."
