Fortnum & Mason has revealed the shortlist for its 2023 Food and Drink Awards, with Felicity Cloake, Laura Goodman and Angela Hui among the selected authors.
The awards champion UK writers, publishers, photographers and broadcasters working in food and drink. The 13 category shortlists are chosen by an independent panel of expert judges (chaired by Angela Harnett OBE) from work published or broadcast during 2022.
This year’s winners will be announced on Thursday, 11th May at Fortnum & Mason, The Royal Exchange, at a ceremony hosted by Harnett and the chef and broadcaster Andi Oliver.
Shortlisted for the Food Book award is Felicity Cloake, for her title Red Sauce Brown Sauce: A British Breakfast Odyssey (Mudlark), which takes readers on a tour of Britain’s best breakfasts. She is up against Laura Goodman with The Joy of Snacks (Headline Home), which is made up of lists, essays and recipes all celebrating the art of snacking.
In contention for Debut Food Book is Angus D Birditt for A Portrait of British Cheese (Quadrille), which appeared on BBC Radio 4’s The Food Programme as one of the Best Food Books of 2022. Also in the running are Kitty and Al Tait for Breadsong: How Baking Changed Our Lives (Bloomsbury), which was shortlisted for the 2023 Andre Simon Best Cookbook Award. Joining them on the shortlist is Angela Hui with Takeaway: Stories from a childhood behind the counter (Trapeze).
