Henry Fraser’s autobiography The Little Big Things, published by Orion Non-Fiction, will be adapted into a musical.
The Little Big Things is a "life-affirming story of courage, transformation and a reminder that it’s the little things that really do matter the most". Upon acquisition in 2016 Amanda Harris, then publisher at Orion, said: "This book will encourage anyone facing a personal challenge – however great or small – and will inspire us all to live our lives to the full."
Fraser was an avid sportsman and an academy player with a premiership rugby club when a diving accident in 2009 left him paralysed from the shoulders down. His determination to adapt to his new life meant he left hospital a year earlier than expected and now he is an artist, inspirational speaker and author.
"There have been many things that have happened since my accident that I never thought about in life, never planned and really surprised me, in a great way," said Fraser. "This musical is one of those moments. The guys have been great to work with and the moment they played me a couple of songs I was sold. I still can’t believe it’s actually happening and it makes me incredibly excited and nervous.”
The musical will be directed by Luke Sheppard, director of the Olivier Award-winning musical "& Juliet", and will feature an "explosive theatrical pop soundtrack" with music by Nick Butcher, lyrics by Butcher and Tom Ling and script by Joe White.
Butcher commented: "Many of our personal conversations inspired songs within the show both honouring and expanding on Henry’s autobiography."
Sheppard added: "After an incredible development process over the last few years, it’s a privilege to be welcoming the world to this brand-new musical premiering at London’s newest theatre. With an extraordinary true story at the centre of it and an electrifying new score, we can’t wait to bring this thrilling new production to the stage."
The musical will run from 2nd September 2023 to 25th November 2023 at Soho Place.
