Vintage Classics will publish a third book by Stoner author John Williams in January 2014.
Butcher's Crossing was first published in the US in 1960, and has not been published in the UK since 1972. Williams considered the book to be his first novel, and it follows the fortunes of buffalo hunters in the American West.
Stoner, Williams' 1965 novel about a university professor, has been one of the hit books of the year, following its success in French translation in 2011. It reached the TCM top 50 in July, was the number one title in Foyles and Daunts, and Waterstones will sell an exclusive hardback edition of the title at Christmas.
Frances MacMillan, senior editor at Vintage Classics, said: "It has been so wonderful to see Stoner find the wide readership and rapturous reviews it truly deserves, and the support from booksellers has been inspirational. We hope readers will now go on to investigate Butcher’s Crossing and John Williams’ other books, each of which show the breadth of his skill, imagination and compassion."
Vintage also publishes Williams' 1972 novel Augustus.
