Crime writer A L Gaylin has recorded a fictional podcast episode in addition to the audio version of her new book.
The book, Never Look Back (Orion), follows Quentin Garrison, a true crime podcast producer, and Robin, a woman who becomes the focus of his show when he suspects her mother is behind a series of murders in Southern California during the 1970s.
Working with HaperCollins US, Orion created an exclusive fictional podcast episode from Quentin’s true crime series, “Closure”, written by Gaylin. It was made available to download on Soundcloud ahead of last weekend's Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival.
The audiobook version has also been released, with the paperback publication to follow in February 2020.
Senior audio manager at Orion, Paul Stark, said: “Never Look Back is the kind of fantastic book with a brilliant concept that gives us a chance to do something a bit different when promoting the audio edition – it’s been great fun working with A L Gaylin and HarperCollins US to put something creative together. I’m really excited to see how the public react to Closure and the book.”
Gaylin added: “I loved writing the first episode of Closure, a completely new type of writing for me, and an opportunity for me to delve even deeper into Quentin's character and motivations. Having it made into an actual podcast was truly a thrill. It was so exciting to hear my words, sound effects and even musical cues brought to life. What a great opportunity and, I think, a real first.”
