Kiron Gill is joining Pavilion as commissioning editor, amid a string of key promotions in the division.
She joins from DK, where, as project editor, she worked across the illustrated lifestyle and narrative non-fiction lists on several key titles including Rebecca Wilson’s What Mummy Makes series, Santosh Shah’s ode to the flavours of Nepal, Ayla, the interiors title More More More by Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and Andi Oliver’s first cookbook The Pepperpot Diaries. She will join on 10th October 2022 reporting to Pavilion’s publishing director, Stephanie Milner, and can be contacted at kiron.gill@harpercollins.co.uk.
HarperCollins UK acquired Pavilion in December 2021 and took on full responsibility for sales and distribution for the list on 1st July 2022.
Gill said: “I am thrilled to be joining the team at Pavilion at such an exciting time for the company. Pavilion consistently produces a globally strong and diverse range of titles and now as a part of HarperCollins, the opportunity to continue to grow a thriving list across key topics in lifestyle publishing has never been better. I’m immensely proud of the achievements I have made with the wonderful team at DK, and I look forward now to getting started at Pavilion, working with top authors and experts to build upon a successful list together with a new team of talented colleagues.”
Milner added: “Pavilion is experiencing exciting change in our new home at HarperCollins. Kiron’s passion and care, paired with her expertise in food, drink, gardening, personal development and craft, makes her an invaluable addition to our team. I am delighted to welcome her to Pavilion and just know she’ll commission the next most covetable books to our list.”
Ellen Simmons is promoted to assistant editor, reporting to Gill. Having already begun work to deliver books such as Gennaro Contaldo’s Cucina to print alongside her support work for the team, Simmons will be seeking to acquire a select number of titles for the list. She can be contacted at ellen.simmons@harpercollins.co.uk.
Additionally, Laura Russell is promoted to design director, reporting to Milner. She has led the creative direction of the Pavilion list since its acquisition in December 2021. As well as previously spearheading the design of large parts of the list in her role as design manager, she has delivered bestsellers Big Has Home by Hasan Semay, Sugar, I Love You by Ravneet Gill, MOB Kitchen by Ben Lebus, Asma’s Indian Kitchen by Asma Khan, as well as timeless works such as Forest by Matt Collins and Roo Lewis and Glasshouse Greenhouse by founders of Haarkon, India Hobson and Magnus Edmondson.
Milner added: “Ellen Simmons has the drive and attention to detail that will make her a brilliant editor. Her promotion is so well deserved. I’m also thrilled to recognise the superb work of visionary Laura Russell, who has quietly driven the look and feel of our top-selling titles for more than a decade.”
