Jen Calleja, author of Goblins and most recently Goblinhood: Goblin as a Mode, is embarking on a nine-stop indie bookshop tour to promote her latest work with Rough Trade Books.
Her new work comprises a series of essays and poems that propound Jen Calleja’s theory of "goblin hood"—a theory that takes in all aspects of pop culture from film, TV, literature and art as well as the author’s personal and original examinations of grief, lust, family histories and the physical fact of living in the world as it is.
After the book publishes on 19th September, she will be speaking at a number of bookshops.
Calleja said: "This book is who I am. It obliquely (and un-chicly) charts the last 5 years of my life, where so much came bubbling to the surface of the bog. I really wanted and needed to write this book, and I’m so grateful to Nina and Will at Rough Trade Books for publishing both my pamphlet Goblins back in 2020 and now Goblinhood, and for not once doubting what I was trying to do."
Will Burns, editor, said: "We’re very very excited to be able to announce the forthcoming publication of Jen Calleja’s full-length ode to all things ’Goblin’—an expanded take on her pamphlet for us a few years ago—and a book which gives Jen’s remarkable mind the scope to travel across all manner of pop cultural touchstones, from contemporary TV to classic film via literature, philosophy and music—nothing is off limits in this unique and original set of essays from one of our most exciting and daring writers—it’s a privilege and a thrill to be publishing it."
