Gollancz has revealed a new logo for its 60th anniversary year and announced a one-day festival this month featuring authors from across its list including Ben Aaronovitch and Joanne Harris.
Part of Orion, Gollancz is the oldest specialist sci-fi and fantasy publisher in the UK with a continuous SF publishing programme dating back to 1961.
For decades it has had two logos, with 'VG' for hardbacks and the 'Millennium Starburst' for paperbacks. All titles will now feature a combined logo (pictured above) designed by Tomás Almeida and the art department at Orion, consolidating branding across formats and media.
Gollancz has also lined up a special digital event for 27th March, GollanczFest@Home, featuring author readings, giveaways, cover reveals and Q&As. Fans will be able to follow the day’s activity with the hashtag #GollanczFestAtHome.
Authors taking part include Joe Abercrombie, Brandon Sanderson, Garth Nix and Nalini Singh, who will be joining Gollancz’s 2021 debut authors including Susannah Wise, Louise Carey, Jonathan Sims, Adam Simcox, J T Greathouse and more.
This free-to-view celebration will highlight Gollancz’s current publication slate and outline new developments currently in the pipeline for the rest of the year.
Gollancz’s publishing directors Marcus Gipps and Gillian Redfearn said: “It’s an absolute joy to celebrate the Gollancz imprint’s 60th anniversary in 2021. There is so much to look back on and celebrate: from six decades of landmark SF, fantasy and horror publishing, the SF Masterworks and SF Gateway initiatives, and the Gollancz Festival, to the inaugural BAME award in 2020. And there is so much to look forward to: ongoing authors to celebrate, debuts to launch, and secret new initiatives to announce.
“Up first, we have GollanczFest@Home - taking advantage of the necessity to celebrate online and bringing the festival right to readers’ homes in a more accessible and fun way than ever. Pull up your device and have your wifi ready for some great panel conversations and insights... and maybe we can even pencil GollanczFestIRL into our diaries for October, to raise a glass to 60 years of unbeatable publishing.”
