Vex King’s personal development book Good Vibes, Good Life has now sold one million copies globally, according to publisher Hay House, alongside clocking up 100 weeks on the Sunday Times non-fiction paperback bestsellers list.
Good Vibes, Good Life was the Sunday Times bestseller in the personal development category for 2021, and his second book, Healing Is the New High, also featured at number eight on the 2021 bestsellers list.
According to Nielsen BookScan, King has sold 391,000 copies in the UK for £3.2m, excluding lockdown weeks, with the majority of those sales surging after 2019. Good Vibes, Good Life comes in at 307,000 copies for £2.5m.
Hay House Publishing commented: "This is a major achievement for Vex and the whole Hay House UK team, who have worked so hard to ensure his teachings reach a large audience."
King started reading personal development as a young man to try and help himself and his family out of a desperate situation. His father died when King was six months old and his mother’s business with an abusive family member went bankrupt. They frequently found themselves homeless. As they struggled to make ends meet, the violence and racism King experienced led him to toughen up physically to defend himself from attacks. Vex describes his life at that time as painful and miserable and so, during his teens, he turned to personal development.
He said: "I wanted to ensure people would not have to live through what I did, and I wanted to find solutions amongst problems. This is why I naturally became a source of help – people would always seek my advice and I felt the most alive when I was being introspective and writing about the wisdom my wounds have given me."
Hay House will be publishing the Good Vibes, Good Life 2023 Calendar later this year.
