HarperCollins UK has announced that Gordon Scott, managing director, supply chain, will retire from the company in spring 2025. Adam Spiers has been appointed to succeed him, joining the company on 7th October and working with Scott, the supply chain leadership team and the UK exec for "an extensive period of familiarisation and handover".
Scott joined HarperCollins in 2012 from Wincanton, where he was managing director. Prior to that he held various roles as managing director and operations director for P&O, Allied Domecq and TDG.
As managing director of supply chain, Scott serves on the HarperCollins UK executive board. As well as running and maintaining HarperCollins UK’s supply chain and third-party client business, he has in recent years overseen and driven the move from HarperCollins’ home in Scotland in Bishopbriggs to its new facility in Robroyston.
Spiers has more than 30 years’ experience in supply chain and joins HarperCollins from Brakes, where he was regional operations director, having previously worked at companies including Bidford and ASDA. He will report to HarperCollins UK chief financial officer David Alford and will be based at Bishopbriggs until the transition to Robroyston is completed.
Charlie Redmayne, c.e.o., HarperCollins UK, said: "In his 12 years heading up the supply chain, Gordon has delivered an agile and efficient operation and brought in a covetable roster of third-party clients. Now, in Robroyston, he has helped shaped a new facility that will be the envy of the industry and our home in Glasgow for the next 50 years. He is a hard act to follow, but with the amazing team in place and with Adam joining, he leaves us in safe hands. All of us at HarperCollins thank Gordon for his years of service and we wish him the happiest of retirements."
Alford added: "We are delighted that Adam Spiers is joining HarperCollins in the role of managing director for supply chain. Adam has an extensive background in logistics and a proven track record in providing excellent service to customers, delivering operational efficiencies and leading large diverse teams. He is the right person to lead this important part of the business into its next chapter as we continue our long history in Scotland."
