Granta Books has snapped up A Little Book of Noises by Caspar Henderson, author of Book of Barely Imagined Beings and A New Map of Wonders (both published by Granta), on proposal.
A Little Book of Noises "will be a compendium of sounds – a book that brings together noises from the cosmos, the natural world, the human world, and invented world, as well as containing quiet pockets of silence," said Granta. " From the vast sound of sand in the desert to the tuneful warble of a songbird, to the meditative resonance of a temple bell and the improvisational melodies of jazz, this will be a celebration of all things auricular."
Deputy publishing director Laura Barber acquired world language rights on proposal from James Macdonald Lockhart at Antony Harwood Ltd for publication in autumn 2022.
Barber said: "Sound shapes our world in invisible but significant ways, and Caspar Henderson will bring his characteristic curiosity, knowledge and sense of wonder to the subject to take us on an exhilarating journey through the heard universe. Everyone at Granta was instantly captivated by this proposal and we feel excited to be working with Caspar once more on what promises to be a really original and special little book."
