The Granta Trust has appointed Anahid Nersessian to be the new poetry editor of Granta magazine.
A regular contributor to the New York Review of Books as well as the author of three books including Keats’ Odes: A Lover’s Discourse (University of Chicago Press), Nersessian is “widely recognised as one of the leading critics of her generation”, Granta said. Her writing has appeared in publications such as the London Review of Books, New Left Review, the Times Literary Supplement and the Paris Review. Born and raised in New York City, Nersessian now lives in Los Angeles, California.
She said: "I’m thrilled to be joining Granta as the magazine’s new poetry editor. Granta is a singular presence in the cultural landscape: a publication that takes writers and writing seriously, and that is committed to a richly expansive global perspective.
“With my other Granta colleagues, I’ll be searching out the best new poetry from a wide variety of authors, from previously unpublished voices to the most celebrated writers of the past several decades. It’s a special pleasure – though a daunting one – to be filling a position so recently held by Rachael Allen, and as good an example as any of literary imagination, integrity and insight."
Granta magazine’s editor Thomas Meaney said: "Anahid Nersessian has a wonderfully concentrated mind for poetry. Her writing about contemporary poets has been one of the most thrilling literary developments in recent years. We are delighted she is joining us as Granta’s new poetry editor."
