Guppy Books is inviting unagented authors to submit YA manuscripts, to be in with a chance of winning a publishing contract with the independent publisher.
Submissions open at 9 a.m. on 6th June, closing at 5 p.m. on 10th June. Writers are encouraged to submit stories suitable for readers aged 12 and over.
The winner will be chosen by Guppy Books founder Bella Pearson, and a panel of judges.
Nadia Mikail was the winner of the first open submission competition in 2020. Her book, The Cats We Meet Along the Way, was published by Guppy Books in February 2022, selected by The Bookseller as a One to Watch, and described by Patrice Lawrence as "infused with love and hope".
"Winning the first Guppy YA competition meant the world to me," she said. "The competition was so easy to enter – the moment I saw it I knew I wanted to be part of it, and everything turned out way better than I expected. Working with Bella on the book has truly been the biggest blessing; she is delightful in every way and it has been such a fun, exciting, life-changing process. I learned so much and I still can’t believe I got to publish my book – I just feel incredibly grateful for it all!"
Guppy Books will be hosting an "Ask the Editor" Twitter chat with Pearson on Tuesday 24th May at 6.30 p.m., to support and answer questions from aspiring writers.
