Hachette to pay EU staff’s Brexit application costs

Hachette will cover the cost for any employees who are European Union nationals applying for settled and pre-settled status to continue living in the UK after June 2021. 

As Brexit looms, the government’s EU settlement scheme will open on 30th March 2019 with applications costing £65 for applicants aged 16 or over and £32.50 for under 16s with a deadline 30th June 2021 to apply. 

In a fortnightly email to staff, Hachette c.e.o David Shelley said: “I think this is an important time to voice our support for all the EU nationals in our workforce and to say that as a business we see you as key to our success and to our future.”

Hachette estimates around 150 staff could be affected but said there is no estimate for how many employees might take up the offer.
