Octopus has announced a year-long celebratory campaign to mark the 75th anniversary of Hamlyn.
Originally founded in 1950 by Paul Hamlyn, the imprint’s roster includes "highly commercial" cookery and lifestyle titles. Plans for the celebrations come after a raft of promotions under Octopus Colour in October.
To mark its 75th anniversary, Hamlyn will be publishing a "beautiful" small-format hardback collection featuring 75 recipes from international cuisine authors. Releasing in March 2025, the series will include recipes from Anna del Conte’s Classic Italian Recipes, Ken Hom’s Classic Chinese Recipes, Elisabeth Luard’s Classic Spanish Recipes and Chetna Makan’s Classic Indian Recipes. Each recipe will be accompanied with a photograph and an adaptation to make the one recipe into two. The publisher calls it "the best value cookbook series on the market". The imprint has also created a new logo, which will appear on all new publishing from the start of 2025.
"Hamlyn’s mission is to be ‘at the heart of every home’, and this anniversary is a celebration of everything that means," said publisher Kate Fox. "Our publishing has always sought out new and underserved audiences, and created the best-looking and most useful books in the market for them. Our world-class list of authors has helped generations of readers make every day that little bit more enjoyable. With our community outreach, innovations, new design story and, of course, a stellar frontlist of authors, next year’s celebrations are about how we reach even more readers for the next 75 years."
Hamlyn will also partner with Libraries Connected to gift 100 books to libraries in challenged areas, as identified by the Levelling Up campaign. This will tie in with the Libraries’ Adult Summer Reading Campaign 2025, which will focus on encouraging healthy eating and living.
Other activity includes a collaboration with the Guardian on their new Feast app. Hamlyn will provide an exclusive collection of recipes from the 75 Signature Dishes series.
Managing director Anna Bond said: "We are delighted to be able to celebrate Hamlyn’s 75th anniversary with a combination of celebration, partnerships and publications that both honour the heritage of the list and adapt it for modern family living."
Next year, Hamlyn will publish the second gluten-free cookbook from Megan KcKenna, an airfryer cookbook from Pip Payne, titles from School of Wok chef Jeremy Pang and a new edition of First Foods from children’s food brand, Ella’s Kitchen.
