HarperCollins has acquired Fit For Purpose by NHS general practitioner Dr Richard Pile.
Affiliate publisher Rose Sandy acquired world rights from Jonathan Pegg at the Jonathan Pegg Literary Agency. The title will be published in the UK on 15th April 2021.
Fit For Purpose is billed as a "simple and pragmatic approach to improving our wellbeing". Pile will explore how readers need to consider the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of wellbeing to experience a satisfying and meaningful life. He will focus on setting achievable health goals, sleep, connection and integrating our values into the wellbeing journey.
As the father of four children, whose oldest son has severe complex epilepsy and learning difficulties, Pile felt compelled to write this book after realising that he needed he take realistic and achievable steps to maintain his wellbeing when faced with burn-out, which resulted in him being diagnosed with an inflammatory condition, says the publisher.
Sandy commented: "We are delighted to add a medical expert to our inspirational list. Dr Pile has compassion at the heart of his wellbeing agenda, and he encourages all of us to start where we are and take a more holistic approach to being well and fit."
Pile said: "I’m delighted that Harper Inspire understand and share the vision that drove me to write this book, the publication of which is very timely. This is not a book about the pandemic specifically, but it is highly relevant to the challenges we face at the moment and the questions that many of us have been asking ourselves about what is really important to us and what it means to truly feel well and to live a happy, healthy and meaningful life."
Pile qualified as a GP over 25 years ago, has a diploma in cardiology and is also the GP lead on urgent care and at Herts Valley Clinical Commissioning Group.
