HarperNorth, the new Manchester-based division of HarperCollins, has signed Melissa Reddy's account of Liverpool FC's Premiership 2020 title win as its first acquisition.
Non-fiction senior commissioning editor Jonathan de Peyer signed world all language rights direct from Reddy, a senior football correspondent at the Independent and expert analyst for Sky Sports, BBC and the Premier League. Believe Us: How Jürgen Klopp transformed Liverpool into title winners will be published on 12th November 2020.
Believe Us will tell the inside story of Liverpool’s road to the title—their first for 30 years—featuring insights on and from manager Jürgen Klopp. The book will also feature interviews with key backroom staff and players including team captain Jordan Henderson.
De Peyer said: “Liverpool’s stunning title victory deserves a place in the official record of great sporting achievements, and there’s no-one better than Melissa to write its fascinating story. She’s an incisive and insightful reporter, and I’ve been so impressed with her ability to marshal interviewees from the top tier of the club hierarchy, as well as the current first-team and fans, to paint a vivid picture of Liverpool’s long road back to greatness under Klopp. This is heavy metal football writing at its best.”
Reddy added: “I couldn't be happier that my first book comes at the right time, on the right subject matter and with the right publisher—everything has fitted together perfectly, which is poetic given that is the theme of Jürgen Klopp's reconstruction of Liverpool.
“Having pulled together countless longform articles in recent years detailing the process of the club in returning to their perch of being England's best, the title win felt like a natural point to funnel all the knowledge and insight from key individuals into a book. We're witnessing something incredibly special and historic at Liverpool and it is a privilege for me to share the relentless work that has gone into ensuring this is the case with readers.”
