HarperCollins Children's Books is to bring out its first brand extension publishing for kids' favourite David Walliams, with The World of David Walliams: Book of Stuff, illustrated by Tony Ross.
The World of David Walliams (14th June, £9.99, p/b) is described as "the ultimate compendium for super fans, new fans and anyone who enjoys laughing out loud", and will offer games, quizzes and fun facts featuring the characters in Walliams' children's novels, plus "exclusive, behind-the-scenes content" from the author. Fans can learn to draw like Tony Ross, or design their own Walliams book cover, the publisher promises.
The World of David Walliams is part of activities to mark the 10th anniversary of Walliams' wildly popular children's books, which kicked off with The Boy in the Dress in 2008. Walliams Week, devoted to the anniversary celebrations, will run from 25th June to 1st July.
Walliams was the bestselling author of 2017, earning £13.8m, according to Nielsen BookScan. He was also the first author to rack up 100 weeks as Children’s number one and last year saw three of his backlist surpass the one million copies mark. Altogether he has sold 13.05 million books for £73.5m, with Gangsta Granny his bestseller at 1.16 million copies sold. His latest title, Bad Dad, was the 2017 Christmas number one and has sold 728,753 copies to date.
