HarperCollins Ireland will publish My Brexit, a book by the anonymous writer of the @BorderIrish Twitter account, following a pre-emptive offer.
Publisher Eoin McHugh bought UK and Commonwealth rights from Robert Caskie of Caskie Mushens for the first title by the person behind the "politically astute Twitter feed".
@BorderIrish began in February 2008 and has more than 75,000 followers, including senior politicians and figures such as Robert Peston and Alastair Campbell. The Twitter biography reads: "I am the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland. I’m seamless & frictionless already, thanks. Bit scared of physical infrastructure."
My Brexit came about when Caskie contacted the writer through Twitter and suggested a book; the agent later visited the author in Dublin. The spoof title will introduce a range of characters other than the Irish Border, who talk to each other across various story- lines. It will be published in October.
