Head of Zeus has acquired a “gripping” investigation into the fashion industry by journalist Dana Thomas.
Georgina Blackwell, commissioning editor at Head of Zeus has acquired UK and Commonwealth (excluding Canada) rights to Fashionopolis: The Price of Fast Fashion and the Future of Clothes from Fiona Baird at William Morris Endeavour on behalf of Tina Bennett.
Fashionopolis is a “pacy and gripping investigation into the damage wrought by the clothing industry – and the grassroots, high-tech, international movement fighting to reform it,” said the publisher.
Thomas, who has written for publications including the New Yorker, WSJ and Vogue, said: “In an age when we are encouraged to burn through clothes at a dizzying rate – a garment today is worn an average of seven times before being tossed – I felt it was time to call out the apparel industry for the devastating impact it has on humanity and the planet. But I also wanted to give consumers hope by shining a light on the brave entrepreneurs who are driving change for the better. I’m thrilled that Head of Zeus will carry this message to the UK market.”
Blackwell added: “Dana not only has a wealth of experience reporting on the fashion industry, but has travelled the world investigating the damage ‘fast fashion’ has caused, and interviewing those who are at the forefront of making us rethink how we buy clothes. Her survey is essential reading for anyone who cares about our planet.”
Fashionopolis: The Price of Fast Fashion and the Future of Clothes will be published, to coincide with London Fashion Week with a major PR and marketing campaign on 5th September 2019, in hardback at £20; ebook £10; audio £19.99.
