Head of Zeus has snapped up a “page-turning” new urban fantasy-crime trilogy by writing duo D.K. Fields.
Commissioning editor Madeleine O’Shea acquired world English rights from Sam Copeland at RCW. The first title, Widow’s Welcome, will be published on 8th August in hardback and e-book.
The book is set in the fictional Union of Realms during election year, where it is the job of the storytellers to persuade the people to elect their realm by telling a story. When one of the storytellers is found brutally murdered with his lips sewn shut, it is up to Detective Cora Gorderheim to find out who has killed this man and why someone was so keen to silence him.
O’Shea said: “Widow’s Welcome is at once page-turning, gripping, beautifully written and strangely pertinent to our times, set as it is in an unstable union where fictional stories buy political power. We are hugely excited to bring D.K. Fields’ brilliant trilogy to readers, they’re in for a treat.”
D.K Fields is a newly-formed partnership between novelists David Towsey and Katherine Stansfield. Towsey’s zombie-western The Walkin’ Trilogy is published by Quercus while Stansfield’s Cornish Mysteries is published by Allison & Busby.
The pair said: “We're thrilled to be joining Head of Zeus with this new series – our first outing as a writing partnership. The HoZ SFF list is a fantastic home for our story about the spectacle of spin, at a time when political narratives have become all-consuming. We're excited to welcome readers and voters alike to this new kind of election.”
