Headline Home has scooped the debut fitness book by double Olympic champion gymnast Max Whitlock.
Lindsey Evans, publishing director, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Hugo Jafari at Ignite Sports Management in partnership with Nick Walters at David Luxton Associates. The Whitlock Workout will be published on 9th January.
Its synopsis explains: “As the UK’s most successful gymnast, Max has always done things a bit differently. Instead of spending hours working out in the gym, he uses bodyweight movements – employing workouts that are simple and easy to follow, anywhere, anytime. In The Whitlock Workout he shares a variety of these time-effective workouts for anyone looking to up their fitness levels with minimal fuss and equipment, such as a sofa, cushion or park bench. Whether it’s a spare 15 minutes in the morning before work, or half an hour each day at the weekend, Max will guide you through his workouts so you get the best out of the time you have available.”
The book will be filled with exercises for men and women of varying fitness levels. They focus on building total body strength, mobility and balance, while Whitlock also offers advice on nutrition and recovery with a weekly meal plan and recipes.
Whitlock, who won gold in Rio for the floor exercise and pommel horse events, said: “I am really excited about publishing my first fitness book with Headline Home. I’m keen to inspire everyone to get stuck in and have a go at the workouts and nutrition plan that I have devised. The exercises are all based on ones that I have done since I was 7 years old, and the key is that they focus on core body strength and stability.
“Gymnastics is the best sport in the world for building a solid fitness foundation, benefitting any other activity you take part in, as well as boosting your overall wellbeing. By developing full body control and awareness, you will become stronger and more agile, you will have im- proved flexibility and be more coordinated. Whether a complete beginner to exercising, or someone who works out regularly, I believe everyone can benefit from The Whitlock Workout.”
Evans added: “We are absolutely delighted that we will be publishing Max’s first book in January next year, ahead of the Olympics and his bid to win a third gold medal. He is a superb role model and we are very proud that we will be working alongside him to deliver his accessible fitness message to everyone who wants to work out from the comfort of their home.”
