The annual National Book Tokens Hidden Books Game launched on Thursday 16th November for the 11th year, designed by Harry Woodgate.
As part of the National Book Tokens’ Christmas campaign, book lovers across the UK and Ireland are challenged to test their industry knowledge by identifying 20 book titles from clues hidden in a Christmas bookshop illustration. One winner will be entered into a draw to win £500/€500 National Book Token gift card but only if they manage to complete the 20 clues. Anyone who enters has the chance to win one of 10 runner-up prizes of a £150/€150 gift card.
Illustrator Woodgate has returned for the fifth time to bring the Hidden Books Game to life again this year. The Hidden Books Game can be played on the National Book Tokens site, where the game will be open until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday 31st December 2023.
Last year, over 36,000 people played the game on the first day, with more than 132,000 playing in total and 29,000 players getting all answers correct.
Lisa Bywater, head of marketing at National Book Tokens, said: “Our Hidden Books Game launches in the midst of a nine-week campaign which invests heavily in high street bookshops over Christmas, reminding consumers of the very tangible joy of choosing a new book. The campaign, developed with creative agency Arthur London and media agency Total Media Connect, brings that joy to life across a range of media channels, including TV, radio, print, digital and social advertising, and is supported by festive competitions and content on our sites and via our highly subscribed newsletter programme.
"Our ads are running throughout November and December, driving footfall to high street bookshops in the crucial final quarter of the year and reminding consumers that National Book Tokens are ‘a gift beyond words’ for book lovers.”
