The History Press will launch a new publishing imprint in 2020, with a list focused on "books that spark".
Flint will launch at the London Book Fair in March and will be to home titles on the environment, politics, society and culture, popular science, self-help, psychology and nature, with books that spark action, debate, awareness and conversation.
Publishing director Laura Perehinec will head the imprint supported by the in-house team and Joanna de Vries, who has returned to the company to help build the list.
Launch titles for the list are The M-Word: Reclaiming the Menopause Conversation edited by Caroline Harris and Dare to Be Great by Polly Higgins. The History Press acquired world rights for both titles direct from the author. Further acquisitions include Planet Grief by acclaimed grief therapist Dipti Tait, which is scheduled for release in 2021.
Perehinec said: "The current climate, both literally and societally, means that it’s a great time to be publishing non-fiction with readers increasingly seeking credible, inspiring, informative books. The list will very much be a smorgasbord and will give us the chance to explore more diverse areas and flex our muscles creatively."
The M-Word: Reclaiming the Menopause Conversation is a ground-breaking essay collection which brings together a diverse range of original voices from around the globe to reflect on the ways that menopause can affect and also transform women's sense of self, their bodies and mental health, relationships and work, and their place in the world. Confirmed contributors include: Diane Danzebrink, the driving force behind the groundbreaking #MakeMenopauseMatter campaign; Tessa Sanderson CBE; and Shad Begum who was awarded with the International Women of Courage Award by the then US First Lady Michelle Obama and the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2012.
Dare to Be Great is a "rallying cry for a changing world by the late Polly Higgins who died earlier this year", said the publisher. Named the "People's Lawyer" and one of the World's Top 10 Visionary Thinkers, Higgins was a world-renowned figurehead of the environmental movement, leading the global initiative to establish ecocide as an international crime alongside genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. In her book, she provides the tools all of us need to find our inner greatness and embrace the future we want to create.
