Hodder & Stoughton is launching two new boutique non-fiction imprints: Hodder Press, for “authoritative narrative non-fiction with a modern twist”; and Catalyst which will “champion the very best in commercial non-fiction for the digital age”.
Hodder Press will publish books from experts in areas like science, psychology and cultural history as well as nature writing and memoir. Led by executive publisher Kirty Topiwala and editorial director Anna Baty, it will “seek out voices that disrupt the status quo to create books that inform, entertain and challenge readers”.
Catalyst will be led by publisher Lauren Whelan and promises to "supercharge growth for its roster of trailblazing talent; with the book as a catalyst for major platform expansion, online and offline”.
Key strands of publishing will include “bold, untold stories from famous faces, self-help and personal development, and standout brands with highly engaged communities”.
Meanwhile, the flagship Hodder Non-Fiction list will be rebranded and re-energised to focus on its heritage and strengths in commercial memoir, adventure, sport, history and politics.
Forthcoming publishing includes memoirs from George the Poet and Clive Myrie; Bust? by Robert Peston and Kishan Koria; and The Power of One from Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen.
The launch of the new imprints creates three distinct publishing areas for Hodder Non Fiction. It will be led overall by Topiwala. Commissioners may acquire across all three imprints but Rupert Lancaster, Rowena Webb, Tom Perrin and Huw Armstrong will focus primarily on Hodder Non-Fiction, Topiwala and Baty on Hodder Press and Whelan on Catalyst.
Naomi Morris Omori will also join the Hodder & Stoughton Non-Fiction team at the end of May as assistant editor from Vintage where she was brand executive. She will be working across Catalyst, Hodder Press and the Hodder Non-Fiction team, alongside assistant editor Ciara Mongey.
Full plans, logos and major acquisitions for both of the new lists will be revealed in the coming weeks.
