Hodder & Stoughton has acquired a handbook for "slaying self-sabotage" by business author and podcast host Emma Gannon.
Sabotage, which was first published in September 2019 by an independent Crowdfunder publisher The Pound Project, has been revised and extended to offer 75% new material while working with new contributors and is newly subtitled How to Silence Your Inner Critic and Get Out of Your Own Way.
World rights excluding the US and Canada were acquired by publisher Briony Gowlett from Abigail Bergstrom, head of publishing at Gleam Titles. US rights were sold simultaneously to Allison Adler at Andrews McMeel.
"Procrastination, jealousy, inner critic: how can we overcome these obstacles? How do we stop getting in our own way?" Hodder's blurb reads. "Exploring real-life stories of success and setbacks from leading cultural voices, Emma Gannon searches for experiences, solutions and ways to look differently at what's really holding us back."
It will be published in hardback and digitally on 24th September 2020.
Gannon said: "Self-sabotage is something I personally struggle with. I kept wondering why, when everything was seemingly 'going well' I kept holding myself back through negative self-talk. The act of writing Sabotage, digging into my own patterns and interviewing experts actually changed the way I now think and work, and helped me conquer my own self-sabotage. My hope is that this book may do the same for you."
Gowlett said: "Though it’s sometimes hard to admit, self-sabotage is a theme that unites us all in one way or another. Emma’s insight and curiosity into this subject, and her non-judgemental approach, makes you feel as though you can own it and find ways to work through."
