Hodder Children’s Books, part of Hachette Children’s Group (HCG), has bought the UK and Commonwealth rights to the film tie-in edition of Midnight Sun, a teen romance film starring Bella Thorne.
The story is about a girl called Katie, who can’t leave her house during the day because she suffers from a disease meaning sunlight is deadly to her. One evening, singing on a deserted station platform, she meets Charlie, although she doesn’t tell him her secret.
The novelisation was written by US author Trish Cook and will be published in February 2018, ahead of the film release in March.
Senior commissioning editor Rachel Wade brokered the deal with Laura Bonner at WME.
“The intensity of Trish Cook’s writing really blew me away: it’s incredibly rare to read a novelisation with such heart and drama,” said Wade. “I can’t wait for people to start reading this book.”
