Hodder Education Group has bought the TeeJay Publishers’ list of 90 titles for the Scottish mathematics market.
The acquisition follows TeeJay founders Tom and John Strang announced they would retire after 25 years in the business.
Its books and packs will be published under the Hodder Gibson imprint, but will retain the TeeJay name in their titles. Tom Strang will act as a consultant to Hodder Gibson for the next year at least.
Tom and John Strang said in a statement: “The name TeeJay in Scotland is synonymous with both quality and value for money with teachers and parents. We pride ourselves in providing what we really believe is one of the best sit-down-and-practice set of core maths textbooks and support materials in the world, produced by a small but highly efficient and dedicated team of writers.
"We really look forward to our resources being promoted by such a prestigious and well-respected company as Hodder, and feel confident that, with their support, the resources will expand and reach an even wider audience.”
The Strangs started their company on 1st February 1994 with a series of homework sheets and maths support packs. Their resources went on to be used by almost every school in Scotland, cornering around 95% of its maths market. The firm threw a 25th anniversary birthday bash in February.
Hodder Education said its move was part of a strategy to publish for key territories in the UK and beyond, strengthening its position as market leader in Scotland.
