Hodder has acquired a celebrity memoir, Eat, Gay, Love, by the YouTube star and radio presenter Calum McSwiggan.
Ian Wong, assistant editor for non-fiction, bought world rights from Ella Kahn at The Diamond Kahn & Woods Literary Agency. The memoir will be published on 28th May 2020 as a hardback, a trade paperback, an e-book and an audiobook edition.
McSwiggan’s first book tells his story of being a young gay man. The narrative traces his personal journey as he travels from a family home in Rome to the sex clubs of Berlin and the busy streets of New Delhi. He meets people from all walks of life while finding his feet after a long-term relationship ends.
YouTube star McSwiggan is an LGBT+ advocate, who has worked with the charities Switchboard, Terrence Higgins Trust and Stonewall. In 2019, he started a book club to encourage young people to read LGBT+ literature.
McSwiggan said: “I’ve always had a passion for reading about the unpredictable nature of life on the road. I’m excited to be able to share my own experience of it as a young gay man.”
Wong added: “There is a power in personal stories that help us see ourselves in others.”
