Hodder & Stoughton has landed a book on the "real threats" of our digitised world by Microsoft president Brad Smith.
Editor Huw Armstrong acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Laura Bonner at WME. Tools and Weapons: The Promise and the Peril of the Digital Age will be published on 12th September 2019 in hardback e-book and audio.
The publisher explained: “In Tools and Weapons, Smith takes readers into the cockpit of one of today’s largest and most powerful tech companies as it tackles some of the thorniest emerging issues of our time: privacy, cybercrime and cyberwar, social media, the moral conundrums of AI, big tech’s relationship to inequality, and challenges to democracy.
"The book pulls back the curtain on some of the company’s most crucial recent decision points, as it strives to protect the promise of technology against the very real threats it presents.”
Smith, who wrote the book alongside Microsoft director of communications Carol Ann Browne, leads a team of more than 1,400 business, legal, and corporate affairs workers in 56 countries. He has played a leading role within Microsoft and in the IT sector on issues including privacy, cybersecurity, ethics for artificial intelligence, human rights, immigration, philanthropy and environmental sustainability.
