Quercus has unveiled a packed publicity and marketing campaign for Tova Friedman and Malcolm Brabant’s Holocaust survival memoir The Daughter of Auschwitz, published 1st September.
The publisher signed the book last year in a six-figure pre-empt. Friedman, one of a handful of Jews to have entered a gas chamber and survive, and former war reporter Brabant, will embark on an extensive UK press tour that includes a Times magazine interview, interviews on ITV’s "Lorraine", BBC Radio 4 "Today", BBC "Hardtalk", "Channel 4 News" and Sky News.
They will also participate in an in-person event at the Jewish Museum on 30th August, a digital FANE event on 1st October and collaborations with Holocaust memorial institutions and the Hachette Jewish Network.
The marketing campaign will feature an advertising package with BBC History across its newsletter, website and podcast, alongside a digital and social advertising campaign on Google, Amazon, Twitter, Facebook and Friedman’s own TikTok platform, which has 450,000 followers.
In The Daughter of Auschwitz, Tova immortalises what she saw as a child, using memories that have shaped her life to honour the victims. The publisher said: “This is an extremely important book. Brabant’s research has helped Tova recall her experiences in searing detail. Together, they have painstakingly recreated Tova’s extraordinary story about one of the worst crimes against humanity.”
Friedman said: “I am very happy to be coming to the UK to talk about what happened to me and to pay tribute to all the other daughters and sons of Auschwitz. Most of them did not survive the Holocaust and I feel obligated to let the world know my story so that we can remember them. I also want my message to resonate in a world where intolerance and hatred are on the rise. We must never let history repeat itself.”
Quercus non-fiction publisher Katy Follain said: “To be publishing The Daughter of Auschwitz is a privilege and to have Tova arrive in the UK on publication is an honour. This book couldn’t be more necessary in our lives. Tova’s powerful words will be unmissable as she relives her traumatic experiences during this incredible campaign.”
