Ella Horne will join Quercus as marketing director from August 2022, departing her role as senior campaigns manager for Penguin General.
Horne started at Penguin Random House in 2016 as a marketing executive at Transworld, becoming a senior marketing manager in 2020 before taking on the role of senior campaigns manager for Penguin General in 2021 as a secondment from Transworld.
As marketing lead overseeing the commercial fiction list at Penguin General, Horne has led the campaign for Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club series, while at Transworld she has worked on brands including Bill Bryson and Shari Lapena and acclaimed books such as Hallie Rubenhold’s The Five and Maggie Shipstead’s Great Circle.
She was a Bookseller Rising Star in 2019 and is one of the co-founders of The Flip (Female Leadership in Publishing), an online platform championing female leadership in publishing.
In her new role she will report to communications director Hannah Robinson and work from Hachette’s Sheffield office which has made a number of new hires.
Robinson said: “Ella blew us away during the interview process with her energy, strategic and proactive attitude. She’s got a wealth of experience in digital marketing and a real understanding of what consumers want, as well as of the challenges in marketing today. We are really looking forward to Ella leading the Quercus marketing department and to having her as part of the Quercus management team.”
