Lucy Howkins, divisional director of digital and online for Hachette UK, has been appointed as Headline’s marketing director, succeeding Fergus Edmondson who is leaving to go freelance in July.
She will join the team from late July, having previously held senior marketing roles at Hodder & Stoughton, Atlantic Books and HarperCollins before taking up her current role in 2019.
Howkins said of her appointment: “I am very much looking forward to getting back into marketing after an invaluable stint earning my sales stripes, and I couldn’t ask for a better team to be doing it with. Headline consistently publishes some of the best and biggest books in the market, and there is a lot of exciting talent in the marketing team that I’m fortunate to have the opportunity to work with."
In other changes to the team, Joe Thomas, formerly of HQ, will be joining as head of publicity in early July. He has worked on campaigns for authors such as Linwood Barclay and Tom Daley. Earlier this year he won the Publishers Publicity Circle Paperback Original Award for his work on Josie Lloyd’s The Cancer Ladies’ Running Club. He also founded HarperCollins’ Pride at HC employee network.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the talented Headline team this July,” he said. “I’ve long admired Headline’s publishing and the creative, ambitious campaigns of the publicity team, so I can’t wait to play a part in connecting their fantastic roster of authors with readers far and wide.”
Elise Jackson has also joined the team in the permanent role of marketing manager, having originally joined from Pushkin Press as parental leave cover. She has worked on Jennifer Saint’s Ariadne and the forthcoming Bobby Palmer debut Isaac and the Egg.
Louise Swannell, communications director, commented: “I feel extremely confident that with these key appointments, the Headline marketing and PR teams will be well placed to deliver exceptional consumer campaigns that make it easy for everyone, everywhere to unlock new worlds of entertainment, in line with our mission at Hachette. I’m excited to see how Lucy, Joe and Elise will contribute both to the team dynamic and the business as a whole and I can’t wait for them to get started.”
