HoZ strikes six-figure deal for Paver's 'terrifying tale'

Head of Zeus has signed a "brilliant and terrifying tale of mystery and imagination" by Michelle Paver for six figures.

The publisher acquired world rights Wakenhyrst from Peter Cox of Redhammer Management.

According to the publisher, with Wakenhyrst Paver has written a "master work of modern gothic" in a tradition that runs from Mary Shelley and Bram Stoker to Neil Gaiman and Sarah Perry.

"Wakenhyrst is a towering achievement, the crowning touch to her previous adult titles", said the publisher. "She has conjured up a darkly compelling world, dripping in atmosphere and profoundly spine-chilling."

Paver said: "I'm thrilled to be moving to HoZ. I've been so impressed by their enthusiasm, creativity and commitment, and I know I've found the right home for my books."

Publication of the hardback next April will be supported by a "major" PR and marketing campaign.
