HQ is launching the paperback of Hello! editor-in-chief Rosie Nixon’s debut novel The Stylist with an augmented reality (AR) app developed by TimeSlice Films.
The free-to-download app, which was produced in partnership with Hammerhead VR, enables users to scan the cover of The Stylist, "bring it to life" by becoming one of the paparazzi in the book and share their experience across social platforms.
The Stylist is set in a world of the Hollywood awards season and follows fashion newcomer Amber Green as she becomes an assistant to a legendary Hollywood stylist.
Nixon said: “I was blown away when I first saw the jacket of my book brought to life in 3D and I am thrilled that HQ is at the cutting-edge of technology. I hope my readers will enjoy this added bonus with The Stylist – the exclusive opportunity to step behind the red rope and stand alongside my cover star on the Oscars red carpet as she tweaks her pose for the paparazzi."
Alison Lindsay, head of marketing and communications at HQ, said: “The 3D scene presented to the reader when they point their phone at the front cover of The Stylist draws its inspiration from key themes within the book, capturing a sense of the glitz and glamour that surrounds a red carpet event like the Oscars. Once a reader has explored the 3D scene they can share their best red carpet ‘snap’ on social media, linking the worlds of publishing with digital user generated content and helping drive awareness of Rosie Nixon’s novel in a new way.”
