Emily Kitchin and Dominic Wakeford are joining HQ Fiction as senior commissioning editors.
Kitchin is joining the HarperCollins imprint from Hodder & Stoughton where she currently holds the same role, while Wakeford is joining from Little, Brown Book Group where he is currently commissioning editor for Piatkus. Kitchin will join HQ on the 23rd May while Wakeford will start on 2nd July.
During her four years at Hodder, Kitchin worked with authors including Holly Bourne, Katie Marsh, Lucy Daniels, and published The Roanoke Girls by Amy Engel and YouTuber Oli White’s bestselling Generation Next duology.
Wakeford has been with Little, Brown for four years, and as commissioning editor for Piatkus Fiction, he acquired Justin Myers’ debut The Last Romeo as well as a broad range of genre fiction. He has also been recognised for his #LB50 backlist project, highlighting LGBTQI+ publishing.
“I’m delighted that we have two such talented editors joining our fiction team,” publishing director Kate Mills said. “I’ve admired Emily’s publishing for some time and she brings great energy, focus and experience to HQ.”
Mills described Wakeford as “a smart, innovative editor with a keen eye for a commercial opportunity, terrifically creative in his publishing”.
“They’ll play a key part in ensuring the HQ list continues to grow and reach even greater success,” she said.
Kitchin said: “I've had a wonderful four years at Hodder and have been privileged to work with some amazing authors and fantastic colleagues – I'll miss them all enormously. I've been a huge admirer of everything that HQ has been doing over the last couple of years, the opportunity to join such a creative and dynamic imprint was simply too good to miss.”
Wakeford said: “I couldn’t be happier to be joining the team at HQ – their inherently commercial, diverse and innovative approach to publishing is one that appeals to me both as a reader and an editor, and I’m so excited for the opportunities that lie ahead.”
