Mantle associate publisher Sam Humphreys has left her role at Pan Macmillan after eight years following a restructure.
Humphreys revealed the departure herself in a tweet on 31st May, writing: “I’ve sent my last email as associate publisher of Mantle, put my out-of-office on and shut my laptop down for the final time.”
A spokesperson for Pan Macmillan confirmed Humphreys had left Mantle “as a result of a restructure within the team”.
They said: “Sam is a hugely talented editor and publisher, much beloved by her authors and colleagues alike, and will be missed by all. Her bestselling novels over the past eight years have included The Forgetting Time by Sharon Guskin, Miss You by Kate Eberlen, The Other Bennett Sister by Janice Hadlow and Rosie Walsh’s The Man Who Didn’t Call, which has sold more than 400,000 copies.”
Humphreys took on the Mantle role in 2014 following a three-year stint at Michael Joseph. She had previously worked at Pan Macmillan as Picador’s editorial director, where her acquisitions included Room by Emma Donoghue.
Maria Rejt, publisher of Mantle, said: “I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to Sam for her contribution to Mantle over the past eight years. She has been a wonderful colleague, a sensitive, thoughtful and talented editor and a stalwart champion for her authors.”
Humphreys’ departure comes not long after Joanna Prior joined Pan Macmillan from Penguin General as the firm’s new c.e.o., replacing Anthony Forbes Watson.
