Ingram’s Peter McCarthy will join BookMachine’s editorial board next year to lead its marketing stream.
McCarthy, who is director of consumer insights at Ingram Content Group, will join in 2022. He will be working alongside Magdalene Abraha, editorial manager at Jacaranda Books, on the editorial board and is taking over the marketing stream from Rik Ubhi, editorial director at Bonnier Books.
He will co-programme and host its "Unplugged" marketing event and also guide the direction of marketing-focused blogs and courses on the site. “The move will enable BookMachine members to dip into Peter's vast knowledge of marketing efficiency in order to develop their publishing careers, whilst ensuring that the BookMachine community itself increases its international reach,” BookMachine said.
BookMachine was founded in 2010 to help professionals working in and around book publishing to make new connections and develop in their careers through online and in-person events, video courses and a community hub.
"I've always known Peter McCarthy to be a leader in sophisticated digital marketing practices for books, and have had the pleasure of working with him over the past few years in his current role at Ingram Content Group," Laura Summers, co-founder of BookMachine, said. "We very much look forward to having Pete's input on our editorial board in 2022 and helping our community to develop their marketing skills as a result."
McCarthy said: “Since I first met the team several years ago, I’ve admired BookMachine’s mission to support publishing careers – particularly their focus on inclusivity. I have watched their growth with interest and seen the positive effect they’re having on the industry and those who love it. I am grateful to Laura for asking me to be part of it and am looking forward to supporting their efforts.”
