Nine new countries have joined the International Publishers Association (IPA) extending membership across 81 countries globally with new recruits including Costa Rica, Bulgaria and the Philippines.
At its virtual general assembly on Tuesday (21st November), the IPA confirmed the results of online elections and decisions about membership applications.
The provisional new member associations, joining from 1st January 2024, include the Bangladesh Publishers and Booksellers Association, the Bulgarian Book Association, the Cámara Costarricense del Libro (Costa Rica), the Book Publishers Association of Malawi, the Book Development Association of the Philippines along with the Publishers Association of Tanzania and Cámara Uruguaya del Libro (Uruguay).
Patron members will include Bologna Children’s Book Fair and the Philippine Book Publishing Development Federation. The new joiners mean that the IPA now has 101 member organisations across 81 countries.
The association’s president, Karine Pansa said: “It is wonderful to see so many publishers’ associations applying for IPA membership and recognising the value that the IPA brings to the international publishing community.”
The IPA also launched its new website and confirmed details of the 2024 International Publishers Congress, which will take place in Guadalajara, Mexico, from 3rd to 6th December 2024.
